NCSA Graphic Novel

DESCRIPTION
The outside circle is a graphic novel based on Dr Patti Laboucaine-Benson's thesis and research into historic trauma healing programs for Aboriginal offenders and how they build resilience in Aboriginal families and communities. The novel follows a young Aboriginal man on his healing journey through the Warrior program, as he works through intergenerational trauma and comes to terms with what it means to be a man. Pulp was honoured to attend a Warrior graduation ceremony, meet the graduates, consult with Elders, visit a former residential school with survivors and participate in smudgings and a sweat. Lavishly illustrated by Pulp's Kelly Mellings and Comic Colourist John Rauch (Ultimate Spiderman, Robert Kirkman's Invincible, Darkness, Star-Trek), the novel tackles complicated and mature themes with sensitivity, empathy and care.
